DUI/DWI clients who are taking part in alcohol and drug rehabilitation programs are either there on their own accord, but generally in drug and alcohol rehabilitation as part of a mandated court ruling. DUI/DWI clients, especially initial offenders may be required to go to treatment either in lieu of other penalties or as part of their sentence. DUI/DWI clients will benefit greatly from rehab rather than being punished for their crimes, and so can the judicial system. It has been verified that people who are treated for drug or alcohol use issues as an alternative to other penalties being forced upon them have far better chances of staying out from the courts than those people who are fined, ordered to prison time, etc. In drug rehab centers DUI/DWI clients can establish why they abuse alcohol and drugs, to be able to address these issues and find resolution for the actual situations and circumstances in their lives which trigger their drug abuse. This can truly save lives, not just the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but people that may be impacted by their drug abuse when they drive while intoxicated down the road.
