Criminal justice clients are those who are in any type of alcohol and drug treatment program on account of a drug or alcohol related criminal offense. This will happen for example when someone is convicted of a DUI or DWI, or any other kind of drug related criminal offense which has led a legal court to believe the individual has any type of drug or alcohol use issue. Not everyone has the option of taking part in a drug treatment program as a criminal justice client, but when this option is ordered from the court it really is well advised that the individual do everything they are able to to take full advantage of this opportunity. In many cases, other penalties and consequences could be entirely eradicated or lessened when the individual succeeds in rehabilitation and finishes the drug and alcohol rehab program that is ordered for them. First-time offenders are the most likely criminal justice clients because it has been proven that criminal justice clients who do take part in rehab instead of other consequences have much lower recidivism rates than those who find themselves ordered to incarceration or receive other penalties. Ultimately, it saves the court system both money and time when criminal justice clients receive effective treatment.
