DUI/DWI clients that are involved in drug and alcohol rehab facilities are generally there by their own choice, but more often than not in alcohol and drug rehabilitation as part of a mandatory court order. DUI/DWI clients, specifically initial offenders may be required to go to rehab either instead of other consequences or as part of their sentence. DUI/DWI clients may benefit greatly from treatment as opposed to being punished for his or her crimes, and so can the court system. It has been verified that individuals who are treated for drug or alcohol use issues as an alternative to other penalties being forced upon them have far better chances of staying out from the courts than those people who are fined, ordered to jail time, etc. In drug rehabilitation programs DUI/DWI clients can determine why they abuse drugs and alcohol, so that they can address these problems and find resolution for the actual situations and circumstances within their lives which set off their substance abuse. This may truly save lives, not just the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but those that may be impacted by their drug abuse should they drive while intoxicated later on. It's a real second chance for DUI/DWI clients.
