DUI/DWI clients who are involved in drug treatment programs are either there by their own choice, but usually in drug treatment due to a mandatory court order. DUI/DWI clients, especially initial offenders may be ordered to treatment either instead of other consequences or as a part of a sentence. DUI/DWI clients can benefit greatly from rehab as opposed to being punished for their crimes, and so can the court system. It has been proven that those who are treated for substance abuse issues as opposed to other penalties being forced upon them have much better odds of remaining out from the court system than those people who are fined, ordered to time in jail, etc. In drug and alcohol rehab facilities DUI/DWI clients can determine why they abuse alcohol and drugs, to enable them to address these problems and find resolution to the actual conditions and circumstances within their lives which trigger their substance abuse. This may truly save lives, not only the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but those who may be affected by their drug or alcohol use should they drive while intoxicated in the foreseeable future. It is a real second chance for DUI/DWI clients.
