DUI/DWI clients that are taking part in drug and alcohol rehab programs are generally there by their own choice, but generally in drug and alcohol rehabilitation as part of a mandated order from the court. DUI/DWI clients, particularly first-time offenders might be ordered to rehab either in place of other consequences or as a part of a sentence. DUI/DWI clients may benefit greatly from rehabilitation rather than being punished for their crimes, and so can the court system. It has been determined that people who are treated for drug abuse issues instead of other penalties being enforced upon them have much better chances of staying out from the courts than those who are fined, ordered to jail time, etc. In drug treatment centers DUI/DWI clients can ascertain why they abuse alcohol and drugs, to be able to address these issues and find resolution to the actual conditions and circumstances within their lives which trigger their substance abuse. This will truly save lives, not only the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but those that may be affected by their drug abuse should they drive while intoxicated in the foreseeable future. It's a real second chance for DUI/DWI clients.
