DUI/DWI clients that are taking part in alcohol and drug rehab programs are generally there on their own accord, but most of the time in alcohol and drug rehabilitation due to a mandatory court ruling. DUI/DWI clients, especially initial offenders could be required to go to treatment either in place of other penalties or as a part of a sentence. DUI/DWI clients may benefit greatly from treatment instead of being punished for his or her crimes, and so can the court system. It has been determined that people who are treated for substance abuse issues as an alternative to other penalties being enforced upon them have greater odds of staying out of the courts than people who find themselves fined, ordered to time in jail, etc. In drug and alcohol rehab programs DUI/DWI clients can establish why they abuse alcohol and drugs, to enable them to address these issues in order to find resolution for the actual conditions and circumstances in their lives which set off their drug abuse. This may certainly save lives, not just the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but those that may be impacted by their drug abuse if they drive while under the influence later on. It's a real second chance for DUI/DWI clients.
