DUI/DWI clients that are taking part in drug and alcohol rehab facilities are generally there by their own choice, but most of the time in alcohol and drug rehabilitation due to a mandated court order. DUI/DWI clients, especially initial offenders may be ordered to rehabilitation either in place of other penalties or as part of their sentence. DUI/DWI clients will benefit greatly from rehabilitation instead of being punished because of their crimes, and so can the judicial system. It has been proven that people who are treated for drug or alcohol use issues instead of other penalties being forced upon them have much better chances of remaining out of the court system than those who are fined, ordered to jail time, etc. In drug treatment facilities DUI/DWI clients can ascertain why they abuse drugs and alcohol, so that they can address these issues and find resolution for the actual conditions and circumstances within their lives which set off their substance abuse. This may certainly save lives, not just the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but people who may be affected by their substance abuse should they drive while drunk or high in the foreseeable future. This is a real second chance for DUI/DWI clients.
