DUI/DWI clients who're taking part in drug rehabilitation facilities are either there on their own accord, but more often than not in drug rehab due to a mandated court order. DUI/DWI clients, specifically first-time offenders could be ordered to rehabilitation either in place of other penalties or as part of their sentence. DUI/DWI clients can benefit greatly from rehabilitation as opposed to being punished for his or her crimes, and so can the court system. It has been verified that people who are treated for substance abuse issues as an alternative to other penalties being forced upon them have greater odds of remaining out of the courts than those who are fined, ordered to time in jail, etc. In drug treatment facilities DUI/DWI clients can ascertain why they abuse alcohol and drugs, in order to address these issues in order to find resolution to the actual conditions and circumstances within their lives which set off their substance abuse. This can certainly save lives, not just the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but people who may be affected by their substance abuse when they drive while drunk or high down the road. It is a real second opportunity for DUI/DWI clients.
