Dual diagnosis can be a circumstance in which two independent disorders exist, and most typically describes a co-occurring substance abuse and mental health disorder. A dual diagnosis may help someone that may possibly not have been able to be helped in the past, finish substance abuse by being correctly diagnosed and treated. Their mental health disorder may have been misdiagnosed, not diagnosed at all, or mistreated which could have prompted and led to their substance abuse issues. Establishing the reality that someone is in fact a dual diagnosis client not merely helps establish a highly effective course of treatment for them, but will also help clients better understand what triggered their drug use and the way to prevent it later on. Handling dual diagnosis can be a more extensive process than the usual typical drug rehab program, and individuals who have a dual diagnosis might be required to take part in an extensive aftercare program which may include appropriate medical support along with continued rehabilitation services. Being clinically determined to have co-occurring disorders doesn't signify the person will have to be medicated through out their lives either, and in fact lots of people who have a dual diagnosis experience more effective outcomes when treated holistically and when alternative treatment methods are utilized.
