DUI/DWI clients who are involved in drug and alcohol treatment programs are either there by their own choice, but more often than not in alcohol and drug treatment due to a mandated order from the court. DUI/DWI clients, especially initial offenders may be required to go to treatment either instead of other consequences or as part of their sentence. DUI/DWI clients can benefit greatly from treatment rather than being punished because of their crimes, and so can the judicial system. It has been proven that individuals who are treated for substance abuse issues rather than other penalties being enforced upon them have far better odds of remaining out from the courts than those who find themselves fined, ordered to time in jail, etc. In alcohol and drug treatment facilities DUI/DWI clients can establish why they abuse alcohol and drugs, so that they can address these issues and find resolution for the actual situations and circumstances in their lives which set off their substance abuse. This will certainly save lives, not only the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but people that may be impacted by their substance abuse should they drive while drunk or high in the future. This is a real second opportunity for DUI/DWI clients.
