DUI/DWI clients who are involved in drug and alcohol rehabilitation programs are either there by their own choice, but generally in drug and alcohol rehabilitation as part of a mandated order from the court. DUI/DWI clients, particularly initial offenders could be required to go to rehabilitation either in place of other penalties or as a part of a sentence. DUI/DWI clients may benefit greatly from treatment as an alternative to being punished for their crimes, and so can the judicial system. It has been proven that people who are treated for drug abuse issues instead of other penalties being enforced upon them have greater chances of staying out of the courts than people who find themselves fined, ordered to time in jail, etc. In drug rehab programs DUI/DWI clients can determine why they abuse alcohol and drugs, to enable them to address these issues and find resolution to the actual conditions and circumstances inside their lives which prompt their drug or alcohol use. This will truly save lives, not just the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but people that may be impacted by their substance abuse whenever they drive while under the influence down the road. It is a real second chance for DUI/DWI clients.
