DUI/DWI clients that are involved in drug and alcohol treatment programs are either there on their own accord, but most of the time in alcohol and drug rehabilitation due to a mandatory court ruling. DUI/DWI clients, specifically first-time offenders might be required to go to treatment either instead of other consequences or as a part of a sentence. DUI/DWI clients will benefit greatly from treatment as opposed to being punished for their crimes, and so can the court system. It has been verified that people who are treated for substance abuse issues instead of other penalties being forced upon them have greater odds of remaining out of the court system than those who are fined, ordered to prison time, etc. In drug rehabilitation centers DUI/DWI clients can ascertain why they abuse drugs and alcohol, in order to address these problems in order to find resolution for the actual situations and circumstances in their lives which set off their drug abuse. This will truly save lives, not only the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but people that may be affected by their drug or alcohol use if they drive while under the influence down the road. It's a real second opportunity for DUI/DWI clients.
