DUI/DWI clients that are taking part in drug rehabilitation programs are either there on their own accord, but usually in drug rehab as part of a mandatory court ruling. DUI/DWI clients, especially first-time offenders could possibly be required to go to rehabilitation either instead of other penalties or as a part of a sentence. DUI/DWI clients will benefit greatly from rehab as an alternative to being punished because of their crimes, and so can the court system. It has been established that individuals who are treated for substance abuse issues as an alternative to other penalties being forced upon them have much better chances of staying out of the courts than people who find themselves fined, ordered to jail time, etc. In drug treatment centers DUI/DWI clients can determine why they abuse alcohol and drugs, so that they can address these problems and find resolution for the actual conditions and circumstances in their lives which trigger their drug abuse. This will certainly save lives, not only the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but people who may be affected by their substance abuse when they drive while intoxicated later on. It is a real second chance for DUI/DWI clients.
