DUI/DWI clients that are involved in drug and alcohol rehabilitation centers are either there by their own choice, but generally in drug and alcohol rehabilitation due to a mandatory court ruling. DUI/DWI clients, particularly first-time offenders could be ordered to treatment either instead of other consequences or as a part of a sentence. DUI/DWI clients can benefit greatly from rehabilitation instead of being punished for their crimes, and so can the court system. It has been verified that people who are treated for drug or alcohol use issues as an alternative to other penalties being enforced upon them have far better chances of remaining out from the courts than those who find themselves fined, ordered to time in jail, etc. In alcohol and drug rehab centers DUI/DWI clients can determine why they abuse alcohol and drugs, to be able to address these problems in order to find resolution to the actual situations and circumstances inside their lives which prompt their substance abuse.
