Outpatient treatment gives treatment clients the opportunity to sustain certain responsibilities and elements of their lifestyle while taking part in drug and alcohol treatment services. Outpatient treatment is a moderate level of rehabilitation, and shouldn't be mistaken for the level of rehabilitation provided within an inpatient or residential treatment setting which is significantly more intensive. Outpatient treatment might be suited to someone who has a brief history of drug or alcohol use for example, but will almost certainly not be adequate for someone whose rehab needs exceed that which outpatient treatment is able to offer. Individuals involved in substance abuse often need a considerable environmental change, because many of the things which trigger their substance abuse are purely environmental. For example, if someone else is being physically or psychologically abused and this is prompting their drug or alcohol use, it's impossible for any rehabilitation efforts to have success should they return to such circumstances on a regular basis. In outpatient treatment, clients can engage in group and individual therapy, in addition to family counseling services. In outpatient treatment, most programs will provide services 5 to 7 days a week on either a part-time or full time basis for four weeks or longer in some instances.
