DUI/DWI clients that are involved in drug treatment centers are either there on their own accord, but generally in drug and alcohol treatment due to a mandatory court order. DUI/DWI clients, particularly initial offenders could be required to go to rehab either instead of other consequences or as a part of a sentence. DUI/DWI clients will benefit greatly from rehabilitation as opposed to being punished for their crimes, and so can the court system. It has been established that people who are treated for drug or alcohol use issues as an alternative to other penalties being enforced upon them have much better chances of remaining out of the courts than those people who are fined, ordered to time in jail, etc. In drug treatment centers DUI/DWI clients can determine why they abuse drugs and alcohol, in order to address these issues in order to find resolution for the actual conditions and circumstances within their lives which trigger their drug or alcohol use. This will truly save lives, not just the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but those that may be affected by their substance abuse if they drive while under the influence down the road. It is a real second opportunity for DUI/DWI clients.
