DUI/DWI clients who're taking part in drug and alcohol rehabilitation programs are either there on their own accord, but more often than not in drug and alcohol rehabilitation due to a mandated order from the court. DUI/DWI clients, particularly initial offenders could be required to go to treatment either in place of other penalties or as part of their sentence. DUI/DWI clients can benefit greatly from treatment as opposed to being punished because of their crimes, and so can the court system. It has been established that individuals who are treated for drug or alcohol use issues as opposed to other penalties being forced upon them have far better odds of remaining out of the court system than people who find themselves fined, ordered to incarceration, etc. In drug and alcohol treatment facilities DUI/DWI clients can ascertain why they abuse alcohol and drugs, to be able to address these issues and find resolution to the actual situations and circumstances within their lives which set off their drug or alcohol use. This could certainly save lives, not just the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but people who may be affected by their substance abuse whenever they drive while intoxicated in the foreseeable future. It is a real second opportunity for DUI/DWI clients.
