DUI/DWI clients that are taking part in drug and alcohol treatment facilities are generally there by their own choice, but most of the time in alcohol and drug rehabilitation as part of a mandated court ruling. DUI/DWI clients, specifically first-time offenders may be required to go to treatment either in place of other penalties or as part of their sentence. DUI/DWI clients will benefit greatly from treatment instead of being punished because of their crimes, and so can the judicial system. It has been proven that those who are treated for substance abuse issues as an alternative to other penalties being forced upon them have far better chances of remaining out from the courts than those people who are fined, ordered to jail time, etc. In drug rehabilitation facilities DUI/DWI clients can ascertain why they abuse drugs and alcohol, so that they can address these issues and find resolution for the actual conditions and circumstances in their lives which prompt their drug or alcohol use. This may truly save lives, not only the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but people that may be affected by their drug or alcohol use when they drive while drunk or high in the future. It is a real second opportunity for DUI/DWI clients.
