DUI/DWI clients who are involved in drug rehabilitation centers are generally there by their own choice, but usually in drug and alcohol treatment as part of a mandatory court ruling. DUI/DWI clients, specifically initial offenders could be ordered to rehab either in lieu of other consequences or as part of their sentence. DUI/DWI clients can benefit greatly from rehabilitation as an alternative to being punished for his or her crimes, and so can the judicial system. It has been determined that individuals who are treated for substance abuse issues rather than other penalties being forced upon them have much better chances of remaining out of the court system than those people who are fined, ordered to time in jail, etc. In alcohol and drug rehab facilities DUI/DWI clients can determine why they abuse drugs and alcohol, to be able to address these problems and find resolution for the actual conditions and circumstances within their lives which prompt their substance abuse. This can certainly save lives, not just the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but people that may be impacted by their drug abuse should they drive while intoxicated in the foreseeable future. It is a real second opportunity for DUI/DWI clients.
