Outpatient treatment gives rehabilitation clients the opportunity to maintain specific responsibilities and aspects of their lifestyle while getting involved in drug and alcohol treatment services. Outpatient treatment is a moderate amount of rehabilitation, and shouldn't be mistaken for the degree of rehab provided in an inpatient or residential rehabilitation program which is significantly more intensive. Outpatient treatment could be well suited for anyone who has a short history of drug or alcohol use for instance, but will certainly not be adequate for someone whose rehab needs go beyond that which outpatient treatment is prepared to provide. Individuals involved in drug and alcohol use often require an extreme change of environment, because most of the things that trigger their drug and alcohol use are purely environmental. For example, when someone is being physically or psychologically mistreated and this is triggering their drug abuse, there is no way for any rehabilitation efforts to succeed if they go back to such situations every day. In outpatient treatment, individuals can benefit from group and individual therapy, along with family therapy services. In outpatient treatment, most centers will provide services five to seven days per week on either a part-time or full time basis for 30 days or longer in some cases.
