DUI/DWI clients that are taking part in drug and alcohol treatment centers are either there by their own choice, but more often than not in drug rehab as part of a mandated court order. DUI/DWI clients, especially first-time offenders may be ordered to rehabilitation either in lieu of other penalties or as a part of a sentence. DUI/DWI clients may benefit greatly from treatment instead of being punished for their crimes, and so can the judicial system. It has been determined that people who are treated for substance abuse issues as an alternative to other penalties being forced upon them have far better chances of staying out of the courts than people who find themselves fined, ordered to incarceration, etc. In alcohol and drug treatment facilities DUI/DWI clients can determine why they abuse drugs and alcohol, to be able to address these problems and find resolution for the actual conditions and circumstances within their lives which prompt their drug abuse. This may certainly save lives, not just the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but people that may be affected by their drug or alcohol use when they drive while intoxicated later on. It is a real second opportunity for DUI/DWI clients.
