DUI/DWI clients that are taking part in drug and alcohol rehabilitation programs are either there on their own accord, but more often than not in alcohol and drug rehabilitation as part of a mandated order from the court. DUI/DWI clients, especially initial offenders might be required to go to rehab either in place of other penalties or as part of their sentence. DUI/DWI clients will benefit greatly from treatment instead of being punished for his or her crimes, and so can the judicial system. It has been established that those who are treated for drug or alcohol use issues as opposed to other penalties being forced upon them have far better chances of remaining out from the court system than those who are fined, ordered to jail time, etc. In alcohol and drug treatment programs DUI/DWI clients can ascertain why they abuse alcohol and drugs, to enable them to address these problems in order to find resolution to the actual situations and circumstances within their lives which trigger their drug or alcohol use. This may truly save lives, not just the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but people who may be affected by their drug abuse whenever they drive while drunk or high in the foreseeable future. It is a real second opportunity for DUI/DWI clients.
