DUI/DWI clients who are taking part in alcohol and drug treatment facilities are generally there on their own accord, but generally in drug treatment due to a mandated court order. DUI/DWI clients, specifically first-time offenders could be required to go to treatment either in lieu of other penalties or as part of their sentence. DUI/DWI clients may benefit greatly from treatment as opposed to being punished for his or her crimes, and so can the court system. It has been determined that those who are treated for drug or alcohol use issues instead of other penalties being forced upon them have greater odds of remaining out of the courts than people who find themselves fined, ordered to prison time, etc. In drug rehab facilities DUI/DWI clients can establish why they abuse alcohol and drugs, to enable them to address these problems and find resolution for the actual situations and circumstances in their lives which set off their drug abuse. This will certainly save lives, not just the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but those who may be affected by their drug abuse if they drive while intoxicated later on. It is a real second chance for DUI/DWI clients.
