DUI/DWI clients that are taking part in drug and alcohol rehabilitation programs are generally there by their own choice, but generally in drug rehab due to a mandated court ruling. DUI/DWI clients, specifically first-time offenders could be required to go to rehabilitation either in lieu of other consequences or as a part of a sentence. DUI/DWI clients may benefit greatly from treatment rather than being punished for their crimes, and so can the court system. It has been verified that people who are treated for drug abuse issues rather than other penalties being enforced upon them have much better chances of remaining out of the court system than those people who are fined, ordered to jail time, etc. In alcohol and drug rehabilitation programs DUI/DWI clients can establish why they abuse alcohol and drugs, to be able to address these issues in order to find resolution to the actual conditions and circumstances in their lives which prompt their drug or alcohol use. This can truly save lives, not only the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but those that may be affected by their substance abuse when they drive while drunk or high in the foreseeable future. It's a real second chance for DUI/DWI clients.
