DUI/DWI clients that are taking part in alcohol and drug treatment centers are either there by their own choice, but generally in drug and alcohol treatment as part of a mandated court order. DUI/DWI clients, specifically first-time offenders might be required to go to treatment either instead of other consequences or as a part of a sentence. DUI/DWI clients can benefit greatly from rehab as opposed to being punished for his or her crimes, and so can the court system. It has been proven that people who are treated for drug or alcohol use issues rather than other penalties being enforced upon them have much better odds of remaining out of the court system than people who find themselves fined, ordered to time in jail, etc. In drug rehabilitation facilities DUI/DWI clients can ascertain why they abuse alcohol and drugs, to enable them to address these issues and find resolution to the actual conditions and circumstances inside their lives which prompt their drug abuse. This may certainly save lives, not only the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but those that may be affected by their drug abuse when they drive while under the influence down the road.
