DUI/DWI clients who are involved in drug rehab programs are either there by their own choice, but usually in drug and alcohol rehabilitation due to a mandatory order from the court. DUI/DWI clients, especially first-time offenders could be required to go to treatment either in lieu of other consequences or as a part of a sentence. DUI/DWI clients will benefit greatly from treatment instead of being punished because of their crimes, and so can the court system. It has been proven that individuals who are treated for drug or alcohol use issues instead of other penalties being enforced upon them have far better odds of remaining out of the court system than those people who are fined, ordered to jail time, etc. In drug and alcohol rehab facilities DUI/DWI clients can ascertain why they abuse alcohol and drugs, in order to address these problems in order to find resolution for the actual conditions and circumstances in their lives which trigger their substance abuse. This can truly save lives, not only the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but those that may be affected by their substance abuse if they drive while under the influence down the road.
