Dual diagnosis can be a circumstance in which two independent disorders exist, and most typically describes a co-occurring drug or alcohol use and mental health disorder. A dual diagnosis may help someone that may not have been capable of being helped before, stop drug abuse by being correctly diagnosed and treated. Their mental health disorder could have been misdiagnosed, not diagnosed at all, or treated incorrectly which could have triggered and resulted in their drug or alcohol use problems. Establishing the truth that someone is actually a dual diagnosis client not only helps establish a highly effective treatment plan for them, but could also help clients better determine what led to their drug abuse and the way to prevent it in the foreseeable future. Handling dual diagnosis might be a more extensive process than the usual typical drug rehab program, and folks who have a dual diagnosis might need to take part in an extensive aftercare program that might include appropriate medical support as well as further rehabilitation services. Being diagnosed with co-occurring disorders doesn't mean that the person will need to be medicated for the remainder of their lives either, and actually a lot of people with a dual diagnosis experience far better outcomes when treated holistically and when alternative therapy is employed.
