DUI/DWI clients who are involved in drug and alcohol treatment programs are generally there on their own accord, but generally in drug rehab as part of a mandatory order from the court. DUI/DWI clients, particularly first-time offenders may be required to go to rehab either in lieu of other consequences or as part of their sentence. DUI/DWI clients may benefit greatly from rehabilitation as an alternative to being punished for their crimes, and so can the court system. It has been established that people who are treated for drug abuse issues instead of other penalties being forced upon them have much better chances of staying out of the court system than those who are fined, ordered to incarceration, etc. In drug and alcohol treatment facilities DUI/DWI clients can establish why they abuse drugs and alcohol, in order to address these issues and find resolution for the actual conditions and circumstances within their lives which trigger their drug abuse. This could certainly save lives, not only the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but people that may be impacted by their drug abuse if they drive while drunk or high in the future. It is a real second chance for DUI/DWI clients.
