DUI/DWI clients who're involved in alcohol and drug treatment programs are generally there on their own accord, but more often than not in drug and alcohol rehab due to a mandated order from the court. DUI/DWI clients, specifically first-time offenders could be ordered to treatment either in place of other penalties or as a part of a sentence. DUI/DWI clients may benefit greatly from rehabilitation as opposed to being punished for their crimes, and so can the judicial system. It has been established that those who are treated for substance abuse issues instead of other penalties being forced upon them have much better chances of remaining out of the courts than those who are fined, ordered to time in jail, etc. In drug and alcohol rehabilitation centers DUI/DWI clients can determine why they abuse alcohol and drugs, to be able to address these issues in order to find resolution to the actual conditions and circumstances inside their lives which set off their drug or alcohol use. This will certainly save lives, not only the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but those that may be impacted by their substance abuse when they drive while drunk or high later on. It's a real second opportunity for DUI/DWI clients.
