DUI/DWI clients that are involved in alcohol and drug rehab facilities are generally there on their own accord, but generally in alcohol and drug treatment due to a mandated court order. DUI/DWI clients, especially first-time offenders could be required to go to treatment either instead of other consequences or as part of their sentence. DUI/DWI clients may benefit greatly from treatment rather than being punished for their crimes, and so can the judicial system. It has been determined that individuals who are treated for drug or alcohol use issues instead of other penalties being enforced upon them have greater odds of remaining out of the courts than those people who are fined, ordered to incarceration, etc. In drug and alcohol rehabilitation centers DUI/DWI clients can determine why they abuse alcohol and drugs, to be able to address these issues and find resolution to the actual conditions and circumstances inside their lives which set off their substance abuse. This could truly save lives, not just the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but those who may be affected by their substance abuse if they drive while drunk or high in the foreseeable future. This is a real second chance for DUI/DWI clients.
