DUI/DWI clients that are taking part in drug and alcohol treatment programs are either there by their own choice, but usually in drug rehab as part of a mandatory court order. DUI/DWI clients, specifically initial offenders may be required to go to treatment either in place of other consequences or as a part of a sentence. DUI/DWI clients may benefit greatly from rehab instead of being punished for his or her crimes, and so can the judicial system. It has been established that those who are treated for drug abuse issues rather than other penalties being forced upon them have greater odds of remaining out of the court system than those who are fined, ordered to jail time, etc. In alcohol and drug rehabilitation facilities DUI/DWI clients can establish why they abuse alcohol and drugs, in order to address these issues in order to find resolution for the actual conditions and circumstances in their lives which trigger their substance abuse. This could truly save lives, not just the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but people that may be impacted by their substance abuse should they drive while drunk or high later on. It is a real second opportunity for DUI/DWI clients.
