DUI/DWI clients who are taking part in drug and alcohol rehab facilities are generally there on their own accord, but more often than not in drug and alcohol treatment due to a mandatory court ruling. DUI/DWI clients, particularly initial offenders might be ordered to rehab either in place of other consequences or as part of their sentence. DUI/DWI clients can benefit greatly from treatment rather than being punished for their crimes, and so can the judicial system. It has been determined that people who are treated for substance abuse issues rather than other penalties being enforced upon them have far better chances of remaining out from the courts than those people who are fined, ordered to incarceration, etc. In drug treatment facilities DUI/DWI clients can determine why they abuse alcohol and drugs, in order to address these problems and find resolution for the actual conditions and circumstances in their lives which set off their drug abuse. This may certainly save lives, not only the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but people who may be impacted by their substance abuse whenever they drive while under the influence later on.
