DUI/DWI clients who are taking part in alcohol and drug rehabilitation programs are generally there on their own accord, but more often than not in drug and alcohol rehabilitation due to a mandated court ruling. DUI/DWI clients, specifically initial offenders could possibly be required to go to rehab either instead of other consequences or as part of their sentence. DUI/DWI clients will benefit greatly from treatment rather than being punished for his or her crimes, and so can the court system. It has been determined that those who are treated for drug or alcohol use issues as an alternative to other penalties being enforced upon them have much better odds of staying out from the courts than people who find themselves fined, ordered to prison time, etc. In drug rehab programs DUI/DWI clients can establish why they abuse drugs and alcohol, to enable them to address these issues in order to find resolution to the actual conditions and circumstances in their lives which set off their substance abuse. This could truly save lives, not only the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but those that may be impacted by their substance abuse should they drive while drunk or high in the future.
