DUI/DWI clients that are involved in alcohol and drug treatment programs are either there on their own accord, but more often than not in alcohol and drug rehabilitation as part of a mandatory court order. DUI/DWI clients, especially initial offenders could possibly be required to go to rehabilitation either in lieu of other consequences or as part of their sentence. DUI/DWI clients may benefit greatly from treatment rather than being punished for their crimes, and so can the judicial system. It has been established that individuals who are treated for substance abuse issues instead of other penalties being forced upon them have much better chances of remaining out from the court system than those who are fined, ordered to incarceration, etc. In drug and alcohol treatment programs DUI/DWI clients can determine why they abuse drugs and alcohol, to enable them to address these issues and find resolution to the actual situations and circumstances within their lives which trigger their drug or alcohol use. This will truly save lives, not only the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but those who may be impacted by their drug abuse whenever they drive while under the influence in the future. It's a real second opportunity for DUI/DWI clients.
