DUI/DWI clients who are involved in alcohol and drug rehab centers are generally there on their own accord, but usually in drug and alcohol rehab due to a mandatory order from the court. DUI/DWI clients, particularly initial offenders may be ordered to rehab either in place of other penalties or as a part of a sentence. DUI/DWI clients may benefit greatly from treatment as an alternative to being punished for his or her crimes, and so can the court system. It has been verified that people who are treated for substance abuse issues as an alternative to other penalties being forced upon them have much better chances of staying out of the court system than people who find themselves fined, ordered to time in jail, etc. In drug and alcohol rehabilitation programs DUI/DWI clients can establish why they abuse drugs and alcohol, to enable them to address these issues in order to find resolution for the actual situations and circumstances within their lives which trigger their drug or alcohol use. This may truly save lives, not just the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but people that may be impacted by their drug or alcohol use should they drive while intoxicated later on. It is a real second chance for DUI/DWI clients.
