DUI/DWI clients who are taking part in drug rehabilitation programs are either there on their own accord, but generally in alcohol and drug rehab as part of a mandated court ruling. DUI/DWI clients, particularly initial offenders could possibly be ordered to rehabilitation either in place of other consequences or as part of their sentence. DUI/DWI clients may benefit greatly from treatment as opposed to being punished because of their crimes, and so can the judicial system. It has been determined that those who are treated for substance abuse issues as opposed to other penalties being forced upon them have far better odds of remaining out of the courts than people who find themselves fined, ordered to jail time, etc. In drug and alcohol rehab centers DUI/DWI clients can establish why they abuse drugs and alcohol, so that they can address these problems in order to find resolution to the actual conditions and circumstances within their lives which trigger their substance abuse. This may truly save lives, not only the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but those that may be affected by their drug abuse if they drive while intoxicated later on. It is a real second opportunity for DUI/DWI clients.
