DUI/DWI clients that are involved in alcohol and drug treatment facilities are generally there by their own choice, but generally in drug treatment as part of a mandatory court ruling. DUI/DWI clients, particularly first-time offenders may be required to go to rehab either in place of other penalties or as a part of a sentence. DUI/DWI clients can benefit greatly from rehab as an alternative to being punished for his or her crimes, and so can the judicial system. It has been verified that those who are treated for drug or alcohol use issues as an alternative to other penalties being forced upon them have much better chances of staying out from the court system than those who find themselves fined, ordered to time in jail, etc. In alcohol and drug treatment programs DUI/DWI clients can ascertain why they abuse alcohol and drugs, to be able to address these problems in order to find resolution to the actual conditions and circumstances within their lives which trigger their drug abuse.
