Dual diagnosis can be a situation in which two independent disorders are present, and most typically describes a co-occurring drug or alcohol use and mental health disorder. A dual diagnosis will help someone who might not have been capable of being helped previously, end drug abuse by being accurately diagnosed and helped. Their mental health disorder could have been misdiagnosed, not diagnosed at all, or treated incorrectly which could have prompted and led to their drug or alcohol use problems. Establishing the fact that someone is actually a dual diagnosis client not simply helps establish an efficient treatment course for them, but may also help clients better know what caused their drug abuse and the way to prevent it in the future. Handling dual diagnosis is often a more extensive process than the usual typical drug rehab program, and people who have a dual diagnosis might be required to participate in an extensive aftercare program which can include proper medical support as well as continued rehab services. Being clinically determined to have co-occurring disorders doesn't imply that the individual will need to be medicated for the remainder of their lives either, and in fact many individuals with a dual diagnosis experience far better outcomes when treated holistically and when alternative treatment solutions are utilized.
