DUI/DWI clients that are involved in drug rehabilitation programs are generally there on their own accord, but most of the time in drug treatment due to a mandatory court order. DUI/DWI clients, particularly first-time offenders might be ordered to rehab either in lieu of other consequences or as part of their sentence. DUI/DWI clients may benefit greatly from rehab rather than being punished for his or her crimes, and so can the judicial system. It has been determined that those who are treated for drug or alcohol use issues instead of other penalties being forced upon them have much better chances of staying out of the court system than those people who are fined, ordered to prison time, etc. In alcohol and drug treatment centers DUI/DWI clients can determine why they abuse alcohol and drugs, to be able to address these issues in order to find resolution for the actual situations and circumstances within their lives which prompt their drug abuse. This could certainly save lives, not only the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but those who may be impacted by their drug abuse when they drive while drunk or high in the future. It is a real second chance for DUI/DWI clients.
