Outpatient treatment gives treatment clients the ability to maintain certain obligations and elements of their life-style while taking part in drug rehabilitation services. Outpatient treatment is a moderate amount of treatment, and shouldn't be mistaken for the level of rehabilitation offered in an inpatient or residential rehab program which is significantly more extensive. Outpatient treatment may be well suited for someone who has a brief history of drug or alcohol use for instance, but will certainly not be sufficient for an individual whose treatment needs exceed what outpatient treatment is able to provide. Individuals involved in drug and alcohol use often require an extreme change of environment, because many of the things which prompt their drug and alcohol use are purely environmental. For example, if someone is being physically or emotionally mistreated and this is triggering their drug or alcohol use, there is no way for any treatment endeavours to achieve success if they go back to such circumstances every day. In outpatient treatment, clients can benefit from group and individual therapy, in addition to family counseling services. In outpatient treatment, most programs offer services 6 or 7 days each week on either a part-time or full-time basis for four weeks or longer in some instances.
