DUI/DWI clients that are taking part in drug and alcohol rehab facilities are either there on their own accord, but most of the time in alcohol and drug rehab as part of a mandatory court ruling. DUI/DWI clients, especially first-time offenders could possibly be ordered to rehab either in place of other consequences or as a part of a sentence. DUI/DWI clients may benefit greatly from rehab as opposed to being punished for their crimes, and so can the court system. It has been established that people who are treated for substance abuse issues as an alternative to other penalties being forced upon them have far better chances of staying out from the court system than people who find themselves fined, ordered to prison time, etc. In drug and alcohol rehabilitation centers DUI/DWI clients can determine why they abuse drugs and alcohol, in order to address these issues in order to find resolution for the actual conditions and circumstances within their lives which trigger their substance abuse. This could certainly save lives, not just the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but people who may be affected by their substance abuse whenever they drive while intoxicated later on.
