DUI/DWI clients who are taking part in drug and alcohol rehabilitation programs are either there by their own choice, but usually in drug and alcohol treatment due to a mandated order from the court. DUI/DWI clients, particularly first-time offenders may be ordered to treatment either in place of other consequences or as part of their sentence. DUI/DWI clients can benefit greatly from rehab as opposed to being punished because of their crimes, and so can the court system. It has been verified that people who are treated for substance abuse issues rather than other penalties being enforced upon them have greater chances of remaining out from the court system than people who find themselves fined, ordered to prison time, etc. In drug rehab centers DUI/DWI clients can establish why they abuse alcohol and drugs, to be able to address these issues in order to find resolution for the actual situations and circumstances within their lives which trigger their drug or alcohol use. This will truly save lives, not just the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but those who may be affected by their drug abuse if they drive while under the influence later on. This is a real second opportunity for DUI/DWI clients.
