DUI/DWI clients who are taking part in drug and alcohol rehabilitation centers are generally there on their own accord, but usually in alcohol and drug rehabilitation as part of a mandatory court ruling. DUI/DWI clients, particularly initial offenders might be required to go to rehabilitation either instead of other penalties or as part of their sentence. DUI/DWI clients may benefit greatly from rehab rather than being punished for their crimes, and so can the judicial system. It has been verified that people who are treated for substance abuse issues as an alternative to other penalties being forced upon them have far better chances of staying out from the court system than those who find themselves fined, ordered to incarceration, etc. In drug and alcohol treatment facilities DUI/DWI clients can ascertain why they abuse alcohol and drugs, to enable them to address these issues in order to find resolution to the actual situations and circumstances within their lives which prompt their substance abuse. This could certainly save lives, not just the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but people that may be impacted by their drug abuse whenever they drive while drunk or high in the foreseeable future. It's a real second chance for DUI/DWI clients.
