DUI/DWI clients that are involved in drug rehab programs are generally there by their own choice, but generally in drug and alcohol rehab due to a mandatory court order. DUI/DWI clients, especially initial offenders might be required to go to treatment either in lieu of other consequences or as a part of a sentence. DUI/DWI clients will benefit greatly from rehab as opposed to being punished because of their crimes, and so can the judicial system. It has been determined that individuals who are treated for substance abuse issues instead of other penalties being forced upon them have much better odds of staying out of the court system than those who find themselves fined, ordered to time in jail, etc. In drug and alcohol rehabilitation centers DUI/DWI clients can establish why they abuse drugs and alcohol, to be able to address these issues in order to find resolution to the actual situations and circumstances inside their lives which prompt their drug or alcohol use. This may certainly save lives, not just the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but people that may be impacted by their drug abuse when they drive while intoxicated in the foreseeable future.
