DUI/DWI clients that are involved in alcohol and drug treatment facilities are either there on their own accord, but most of the time in drug rehabilitation due to a mandatory court order. DUI/DWI clients, particularly first-time offenders may be required to go to treatment either instead of other consequences or as part of their sentence. DUI/DWI clients can benefit greatly from treatment as an alternative to being punished for their crimes, and so can the court system. It has been proven that those who are treated for drug abuse issues rather than other penalties being enforced upon them have far better chances of staying out of the court system than those people who are fined, ordered to prison time, etc. In drug and alcohol rehab programs DUI/DWI clients can establish why they abuse alcohol and drugs, to enable them to address these problems in order to find resolution to the actual situations and circumstances inside their lives which set off their drug or alcohol use. This could certainly save lives, not only the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but those who may be impacted by their drug abuse should they drive while intoxicated later on. It is a real second opportunity for DUI/DWI clients.
