DUI/DWI clients who are involved in drug treatment centers are either there on their own accord, but more often than not in drug rehabilitation due to a mandatory court order. DUI/DWI clients, particularly first-time offenders could possibly be ordered to treatment either in lieu of other penalties or as part of their sentence. DUI/DWI clients can benefit greatly from treatment as an alternative to being punished because of their crimes, and so can the judicial system. It has been determined that people who are treated for drug or alcohol use issues rather than other penalties being enforced upon them have far better odds of staying out of the court system than those who are fined, ordered to jail time, etc. In drug treatment programs DUI/DWI clients can establish why they abuse drugs and alcohol, to enable them to address these issues in order to find resolution to the actual situations and circumstances within their lives which prompt their drug or alcohol use. This could certainly save lives, not only the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but those who may be affected by their drug or alcohol use if they drive while under the influence in the future. It is a real second opportunity for DUI/DWI clients.
