DUI/DWI clients who are involved in drug and alcohol rehab centers are either there on their own accord, but generally in alcohol and drug rehab as part of a mandatory court ruling. DUI/DWI clients, particularly initial offenders may be ordered to treatment either in place of other consequences or as part of their sentence. DUI/DWI clients will benefit greatly from treatment as opposed to being punished because of their crimes, and so can the judicial system. It has been established that those who are treated for drug abuse issues rather than other penalties being enforced upon them have greater odds of staying out of the court system than those people who are fined, ordered to incarceration, etc. In alcohol and drug treatment programs DUI/DWI clients can ascertain why they abuse alcohol and drugs, in order to address these problems and find resolution to the actual conditions and circumstances within their lives which prompt their substance abuse. This may certainly save lives, not only the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but people who may be impacted by their substance abuse when they drive while intoxicated in the foreseeable future. It is a real second chance for DUI/DWI clients.
