DUI/DWI clients that are taking part in drug and alcohol treatment facilities are either there on their own accord, but generally in drug rehab due to a mandated court ruling. DUI/DWI clients, particularly initial offenders may be required to go to rehab either in place of other consequences or as a part of a sentence. DUI/DWI clients can benefit greatly from rehab instead of being punished for their crimes, and so can the judicial system. It has been proven that individuals who are treated for drug or alcohol use issues as opposed to other penalties being enforced upon them have much better odds of remaining out from the courts than those who find themselves fined, ordered to jail time, etc. In drug rehabilitation facilities DUI/DWI clients can establish why they abuse alcohol and drugs, to be able to address these issues and find resolution for the actual conditions and circumstances inside their lives which trigger their substance abuse. This may certainly save lives, not just the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but those who may be affected by their drug abuse should they drive while under the influence in the future. It's a real second opportunity for DUI/DWI clients.
