Outpatient treatment gives rehabilitation clients the ability to sustain certain obligations and aspects of their lifestyle while getting involved in alcohol and drug treatment services. Outpatient treatment is a moderate amount of treatment, and shouldn't be mistaken for the amount of treatment offered in an inpatient or residential rehab setting which can be much more intensive. Outpatient treatment may be well suited for a person who has a short history of substance abuse for example, but will almost certainly not be adequate for someone whose rehabilitation needs exceed that which outpatient treatment is prepared to provide. Individuals involved in substance abuse often need an extreme environmental change, because many of the things which trigger their drug and alcohol use are purely environmental. For instance, if a person has been physically or emotionally abused and this is triggering their drug abuse, it's impossible for any rehab efforts to have success whenever they go back to such circumstances on a regular basis. In outpatient treatment, clients can take advantage of group and one-on-one therapy, in addition to family counseling services. In outpatient treatment, most programs offer services six or seven days per week on either a part-time or full time schedule for 30 days or longer in some cases.
