DUI/DWI clients who're involved in alcohol and drug rehabilitation programs are either there on their own accord, but generally in alcohol and drug treatment due to a mandatory court order. DUI/DWI clients, especially first-time offenders may be ordered to rehab either in lieu of other penalties or as a part of a sentence. DUI/DWI clients will benefit greatly from treatment as an alternative to being punished for their crimes, and so can the court system. It has been proven that individuals who are treated for drug or alcohol use issues as an alternative to other penalties being enforced upon them have much better chances of remaining out of the courts than those who are fined, ordered to prison time, etc. In drug treatment centers DUI/DWI clients can establish why they abuse drugs and alcohol, to enable them to address these problems and find resolution for the actual conditions and circumstances within their lives which prompt their drug abuse. This could certainly save lives, not only the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but people who may be affected by their drug or alcohol use when they drive while intoxicated in the future. It is a real second opportunity for DUI/DWI clients.
